Keewaytinook Okimakanak Board of Education is seeking a qualified First Nation member for the role of Vice Principal to help lead their innovative and highly respected school – Keewaytinook Internet High School (KiHS). KiHS delivers quality secondary programming to First Nations students on reserve by blending face-to-face mentoring with cutting edge online asynchronous instruction. The successful candidate will be part of a team that will oversee the school, including the online learning environment and the classrooms in 16 communities.
Qualifications:
• Knowledge of best practices in online education
• OCT qualified
• Master’s Degree, or equivalent
• Principal Qualifications Part 1 and 2, is considered an asset
• Several Years of experience teaching in the online environment, and experience in administration in an online environment, is considered an asset
• Familiarity with Ministry of Education documents (e.g., Growing Success)
• Strong technology skills
• Knowledge of learning management systems, preferable Moodle, is considered an asset
• Ability to speak in Oji-Cree, Ojibway and/or Cree will be considered an asset
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Establish trusting relationships with staff, students, parents and community school leadership and effectively communicate KOBE’s vision, mission and values.
• Plan and execute the school improvement plan.
• Plan, organize and facilitate staff team meetings.
• Collaborate with teaching schedules and organizing replacements for duties as required.
• Contribute to the recruitment, hiring and retention of staff.
• Evaluate teachers and support staff.
• Plan staff professional development, including NTIP.
• Support the training of new staff members, including the use of our online learning management system and online training program.
• Collaborate to maintain the teacher and student handbooks updated.
• Maintain partnerships with communities and promote new partnerships, including credit-for-purchase agreements.
• Oversee the planning and maintaining the day-to-day operations of the school and ensure that the school policies are consistently applied.
• Collaborate in the dissemination of information and promotion of the school.
• Ensure Indigenous worldview is practiced in the curriculum.
• Monitor online course quality to meet Ministry of Education standards. (e.g., reviewing course outlines, expectation charts, online lessons)
• Prepare materials for school inspection.
• Participate in IPRC committee meetings.
• Plan and implement KiHS classroom special events and activities such as information sessions and parent/teacher conferences.
• Develop After School programs for students at each KiHS site.
• Ensure common understanding for KOBE values in terms of positive student behavior and ensure students are respecting the KiHS code of conduct.
• Work with teacher mentors and Wellness workers to ensure the well-being of students.
• Collaborate and communicate with teachers, Education Director, KOBE Board members, students and communities in order to support students’ academic success.
• Inform the LEA and KOBE of classroom maintenance needs.
• Travel to communities and meetings regularly, sometimes with short notice.
• Oversee and submit ministry proposals for funding and reports to both Federal and Provincial Authorities.
• Oversee the school Budget.
• Maintain student transcripts and report cards.
Salary range: $105,275 - $121,937 based on education and experience.
KOBE Will consider secondments from other school boards for a 1 year term.
