Despite no retirements, moves and changes are happening at area schools.
The Vernon School District will see a few changes among principals and vice principals, effective Aug. 1, 2024.
Colline Johnson, formerly Coldstream Elementary principal, will assist the district and take a development opportunity and become co-principal of Charles Bloom Secondary, along with principal Josh Gutknecht.
Devon Tyssen, currently principal at Hillview Elementary, will take on the role of principal at Coldstream Elementary.
Current Coldstream vice-principal, Sarah Wick is expecting and will be on leave next year. This position will be filled internally.
Acting Bloom vice-principal, Tyler Hansen, has chosen to return to his counselling role in the fall.
“We thank Mr. Hansen for his excellent service during this year of transition,” the school board said.
Ailish Mallow, currently vice-principal at Silver Star Elementary has chosen to return to the classroom.
“We thank Ms. Mallow for her service and look forward to her continued leadership,” said the board.
Mandy Jensen, from the principal and vice-principal pool, will be vice-principal at Silver Star Elementary.
All other roles remain the same.
“The principal and vice-principal pool will be utilized to cover early retirements, illness, or other leaves,” said superintendent Christine Perkins. “We thank the many who helped with short-listing, and two rounds of interviews.”
There are no principal or vice-principal retirements this year.
