The provincial and federal governments have signed an MOU setting out a regime for offshore wind development in provincial waters.
Federal Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson made the announcement in Ottawa today.
He says the MOU sets out a framework that makes Newfoundland and Labrador the principal beneficiary of the resource. Wilkinson says that will create an independent provincial regulatory approval process.
Premier Andrew Furey calls the MOU an exciting development in the process for building the offshore wind industry.
He calls the agreement “crucial” and says it puts the province “in the drivers seat” when it comes to reaping the benefits of the industry.
