Weber High School principal Chris Earnest was put on paid administrative leave last week and remained out as of Friday while the Weber School District looks into unspecified complaints involving her.
Earnest was put on leave Aug. 16, according to WSD spokesperson Lane Findlay. Weber High’s first day of school was on Wednesday.
“Officials at Weber School District are currently looking into complaints related to the performance of Chris Earnest in her duties as principal of Weber High School. As standard procedure, Ms. Earnest has been placed on paid administrative leave during this process. Since this is an active investigation and no determination has been made, the district is not releasing additional information at this time,” reads a district statement issued Friday.
Earnest was named principal of Weber High in April 2018, after previously being principal at Orion Junior High. She previously taught at South Ogden Junior High for 19 years.
Typically when a complaint comes to the district level about an employee, it’s standard procedure for the district to place the employee on administrative leave, but it does depend on the nature of the complaint, according to Findlay.
Assistant principal Ryan Kachold, one of three assistant principals assigned to WHS, is the acting “building administrator” at the school.
