Conwell-Egan Catholic High School in Bristol Township has a new leader at its helm.
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office of Catholic Education and Conwell-Egan Catholic High School Board of Trustees announced last week the appointment of Joshua K. Bower as the school’s principal. He started his new job on Monday.
Bower isn’t a new face at Conwell-Egan Catholic High School. He has been an integral part of the school’s administration since 2018 and has most recently served as assistant principal for academic affairs.
Under his leadership, he has contributed to the academic growth of the high school, according to Archdiocese of Philadelphia Superintendent of Secondary Schools and Schools of Special Education Dr. Brooke C. Tesche.
Bower’s journey in the education field began with the School District of Philadelphia, where he first took the role of health and physical education teacher at Andrew Hamilton Elementary School. His dedication and skillset further led him to multiple positions at Thomas A. Edison High School, including dean of students, athletic director, roster chairperson, and coaching several athletic teams.
In terms of academics, Bower boasts an impressive background. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Temple University and pursued a master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine. He also attended the University of California San Diego’s Extension and Professional Development Institute.
Tesche extended her “prayerful congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Bower.”
In May, the private high school announced that Conwell-Egan Catholic High School President Thomas Lynch, a 1972 graduate, would step down and named Matthew Fischer, the most recent principal and a 2004 graduate, as the new president.
Conwell-Egan Catholic High School traces its roots back to Bishop Egan Catholic High School in the 1960s. In 1993, Bishop Egan Catholic High School for boys and Bishop Conwell Catholic High School merged to form the current school.
The high school in Wistar Road was set to close in 2012, but the school community came together and it stayed open.
