Principal ruled out in 'disturbing' video incident at Patrick Fogarty - OrilliaMatters

A school board investigation into a “disturbing” video that was widely shared at Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School last month is still ongoing, but board officials say principal Brian McKenzie has been “ruled out” as a suspect.

Both the Orillia OPP and the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board have investigated the video, which appears to show a man watching pornography in a staff room at the Orillia high school late in the evening after regular school hours.

The video was widely AirDropped onto student and staff devices, school officials said at the time.

The OPP has since concluded its investigation, determining that “no Criminial Code violations were committed,” and left the investigation in the board’s hands.

At the time of the incident, a rumour circulated that McKenzie was the individual in the video.

“I want to very clearly put the rumour to rest that the person recorded in the video is me — this is categorically untrue,” he said in June.

The board has since determined McKenzie is not the culprit, but noted the investigation is still ongoing.

“It is an HR matter at this point and so there isn’t a lot we can share about the investigation. We have conclusively ruled out the principal,” said Pauline Stevenson, the board’s manager of communications and strategic initiatives.

“We haven’t been able to identify who took and shared the video.”

The OPP have stated the board and police are aware of the individual’s identity, but the board would not confirm whether the individual was a staff member, or whether they were still employed by the board.
