LONDON, ONT. — Charges against a Waterloo elementary school principal accused of luring underage girls on the internet are making their way through the courts, with the next date set for June 15 in a London courtroom.
Phillip Sallewsky is accused of allegedly using an online website and social media to contact teenage girls.
On Thursday his lawyer Laura Ellis appeared virtually in London on the first court date. It was unclear via Zoom whether Sallewsky was in the courtroom.
Sallewsky was arrested after an investigation involving police in London, Toronto and Waterloo Region.
The presiding justice ordered a publication ban Thursday on any information that could identify victims or witnesses.
Police say a 55-year-old man sent sexually explicit messages and images to girls he believed to be under 16.
Under the usernames “Sam” and “Chuck”, the man used an online website and Snapchat to contact the girls.
On April 30 the man had arranged to meet one of the girls. Police arrested him in Burlington and he was taken to London to be charged.
Sallewsky now faces 17 charges related to child pornography and luring persons under 16 years of age. Sallewsky is principal of Northlake Woods Public School in Waterloo.
The board said at the time of his arrest that Sallewsky had been assigned to home and was not able to be on Waterloo Region District School Board properties or access WRDSB communication tools.
