Principal of Anchorage's Service High resigns after being put on leave amid 'community concerns' - Anchorage Daily News

The principal of Robert Service High School in Anchorage has resigned after what the school district described as “community concerns” were raised last month.

The district’s senior director of secondary education, Kersten Johnson-Struempler, wrote to families about the change in an email Friday, and said assistant principal Imtiaz Azzam would continue to serve as acting principal for the rest of the school year.

Allen Wardlaw had been put on administrative leave in April while the school district initiated an investigation. The district refused to provide details about the concerns, saying they related to a personnel matter. The school district also did not provide further details about the investigation at the time.

Hired by the Anchorage School District in 2015, Wardlaw became principal at Service High in 2021 and before that worked as an assistant principal and teacher at Clark Middle School.

The district also informed families it will hire a new principal for the roughly 1,500-student high school on Abbott Road for the next school year.

“We are committed to you and the entire Service High School community,” Johnson-Struempler wrote. “We will provide you with the strong, stable, and safe learning environment you expect.”
