Philip (Phil) Adams joins Georgian College today, Oct. 31, as the new campus principal and associate dean at the Robbert Hartog Midland Campus.
Adams is responsible for providing college-wide leadership on apprenticeship activity, overseeing all operations and programs at the campus, and collaborating on community engagement initiatives across the region.
“Phil brings extensive knowledge in managing post-secondary trades, apprenticeship programs and curriculum development to Georgian,” said Rebecca Sabourin, dean of Engineering and Environmental Technologies, Skilled Trades.
“As a certified metal fabricator, he has a wealth of experience in the skilled trades and makes a fantastic addition to our Midland campus team as we continue to expand our offerings in this area.”
Prior to joining Georgian, Adams was employed at Cambrian College as the chair of School of Skills Training where he managed the operations of nine trades programs and eight apprenticeship programs. Most recently, he has been teaching as a partial-load faculty member in the welding techniques program at Georgian's Midland campus. Adams led the development of program curriculum to align with levels 1 and 2 of the Red Seal Welding apprenticeship curriculum.
Notably, Adams was also responsible for developing and launching the Georgina Trades Training Inc., Skilled Trades Institute where he led a team in the delivery of eight residential and commercial trades to students.
“I’m pleased to take on this leadership role at Georgian and as a certified tradesperson and educator, I look forward to continuing to contribute to the success of our students and the Midland Campus,” said Adams.
“Throughout my career, I’ve enjoyed being witness to and part of many students’ success stories through post-secondary education and apprenticeship training. I truly believe that a career in skilled trades presents endless opportunities.”
As a lifelong learner, Adams is currently pursuing his Master of Education, Leadership in Learning course at the University of Prince Edward Island.
