Name dropping | Jack Reed named principal of Renaissance High School - Santa Cruz Sentinel

The Pajaro Valley Unified School District welcomed Jack Reed as principal of Renaissance High School in La Selva Beach. The district Board of Trustees approved the staff recommendation at its Sept. 28 regular meeting.

Reed has been  a teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal and principal at both the middle and high school levels since 2001, according to a release from the district. Reed’s most recent position was as principal of Emerson North Alternative High School in Oklahoma. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Cal State San Bernardino in liberal arts with a concentration in English.

Reed has a master’s degree in education from National University and earned a multiple subject teaching credential as well as the California Preliminary Administrative Credential.

Dock funding

San José State is marking the receipt of $3 million in funding for improvements to the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories dock, thanks to the efforts of Assemblymember Mark Stone.

Moss Landing Marine Laboratories’ $3 million allotment will fund the refurbishment of Del Mar Wharf, the dock where its research vessels are tied-up or moored. The vessels provide teaching experiences for MLML research students and staff and serve as a platform where global collaborations and research operations occur.

Layla Powell joins Hospice

Hospice of Santa Cruz County on Friday announced that Layla Powell as its new chief clinical officer. Powel brings more than 12 years of management experience in health care, including acute care and hospice settings, according to a release from Hospice of Santa Cruz County.

Powell was most recently hospice administrator for Sutter Care at Home’s hospice operations in San Mateo.

Powell received her Master of Science degree in nursing with a concentration in case management from Samuel Merritt University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Mills College

Education

The following local student was honored for academic achievement:

Kiley Schneider, of La Selva Beach, was named to the president’s honors list for the 2021-2022 academic year at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. To make the president’s list, students must be named to the dean’s list for three of four quarters of an academic year.
