Local principal now Past-President of BCPVPA | Columbia Valley, East Kootenay, Invermere - E-Know.ca

On July 1, the BC Principals’ & Vice-Principals’ Association (BCPVPA) welcomed its 2022-2023 Board of Directors, with members representing school-based and district leaders in the province’s K-12 public school system.

Brian Leonard (SD43, Coquitlam) assumed the role of President for a two-year term. He has been an educator for 25 years, served as a Director on the BCPVPA Board for 10 years, and moves from his role as an elementary school Principal in Coquitlam.

David Thompson Secondary School Principal Darren Danyluk (School District No. 6, Rocky Mountain), from Invermere, will continue serving on the Board as Past-President.

The 2022-2023 Directors of the Board are:

Jacqueline Borosa, SD68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith);

David DeRosa, SD20 (Kootenay-Columbia);

Heidi Grant, SD91 (Nechako Lakes);

Sid Jawanda, SD57 (Prince George);

Sanj Johal, SD44 (North Vancouver);

Paul Marsden, SD36 (Surrey);

Navshina Savory, SD38 (Richmond);

Tara Zielinski, SD45 (West Vancouver);

Sally Zryd, SD73 (Kamloops-Thompson).

Board Director Read Jorgensen, SD61 (Victoria), will retire from his role as an elementary school Principal in August 2022, and a by-election will be held for a Director to fill Read’s seat for remainder of the term.

The Board is comprised of practicing Principals and Vice-Principals who – along with leaders at all levels in B.C.’s public education system – continued to navigate the health and safety concerns of staff, families, and communities while ensuring a continuity of learning and a positive school environment for students.

The 2022-2023 Board will continue to guide the BCPVPA in providing advocacy and professional development support for our 2,600 members employed as Principals, Vice-Principals, District Principals, and Directors of Instruction in BC’s sixty school districts.

The Board will also support the BCPVPA’s focused work, including the continued advocacy for fair and equitable terms of employment for B.C.’s Principals and Vice-Principals; the establishment of a formal leadership development framework for school leaders in the province; and, the development of strategies and collaborative systemic changes to support the psychological safety and well-being of BCPVPA’s members and all those working and learning in the province’s education sector.
