SILVER CREEK – Following its April board meeting, the Silver Creek Central School district officially approved new its new high school principal.
Last week, Kyle Yelich stepped into the role that James Klubek was filling on an interim basis. Thomas Buczkowski had been Silver Creek’s high school principal, but departed on March 11, to Gateway Longview in Buffalo.
“After a thorough and comprehensive interview process it is clear that Mr. Yelich’s experience will allow him to take over and keep our High School moving forward as we transition leaders during the last portion of this school year,” said the district in a Facebook post.
Yelich has six years of teaching experience at Randolph Academy, and served as an assistant principal for two years, high school principal for one, and Pupil Personnel Specialist for another year. He was currently serving as District Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction at Global Concepts Charter School. Prior to teaching, Yelich served in the Air Force from 2003 until 2012.
“I am confident Mr. Yelich will prove to be a talented, knowledgeable, insightful and hardworking leader for our high school for years to come,” said Superintendent Todd Crandall. “He is student centered and passionate to lead the High School as we continue to maneuver through post-COVID learning while assisting students not just academically but also socially, emotionally and mentally. I am certain Mr. Yelich will have a few meet-and-greet sessions when he begins his appointment, providing an opportunity for you to meet him.”
Crandall had high praise for Buczkowski when he departed, saying that “Mr. Buczkowski has given our students and district his complete support and commitment in the 15 years in which he served as a HS Social Studies teacher and the past six years he has served as High School Principal.”
Originally, Delia Bonenberger was supposed to serve as the interim principal, but has instead been serving as the interim principal of Silver Creek’s Elementary Principal, following Sterling Stearns’ resignation from that position March 17.
