An independent consultant’s report detailing the reasons why principals have quit working in the Amherst and Amherst-Pelham Regional School systems reveals uncomfortable truths, School Committee members said this week.
Some committee members said the report was softened and toned down too much, at the expense of being able to glean a more explicit, comprehensive understanding of what has been happening, and that the information contained in the report is not surprising.
Michelle Hernandez, a biracial Hispanic woman, was hired in August as a new principal at Fort River Elementary school. By early October she resigned, after members of the teachers union accused her of “white supremacy.”
