The North Hills School District has chosen two new assistant principals for the North Hills Middle School, replacing Dr. Jessica Sapsara, the previous middle school assistant principal, who resigned in November.
Jim Cassell was hired as the new assistant principal of the middle school and comes from the Brentwood School District. Cassell served as the assistant principal at both the middle and high schools in Brentwood.
Cassell obtained his bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University, his master of education in curriculum design and instruction from Clarion University and his principal certification from California University of Pennsylvania.
Cassell, who resides in Moon, will assume his responsibilities in mid-February.
“I am very excited to be joining the administrative team at North Hills School District,” Cassell said. “North Hills Middle School has a great reputation and I look forward to working with the teachers, students and parents of the district.”
Katie Fanelli will serve as the school’s new interim assistant principal through the end of the current school year. Fanelli began her work in the district as a special education teacher at the middle school in 2019.
A 2010 North Hills graduate, Fanelli also graduated from Slippery Rock University in 2014, obtaining her teaching certificate in both early childhood education and special education. She then went on to Citadel Graduate College, where she obtained her master of education in leadership and administration and her K-12 principal certification.
“I am so glad to be taking on a leadership role with an amazing team,” Fanelli said. “I cannot wait to really get started and work with all of our incredible kids as they navigate their time in middle school. It feels like a dream!”
