Pa. fair school funding lawsuit gets a date with history
The fight for fair school funding in Pennsylvania is getting its long awaited day in court, and education equity advocates are hoping for an historic outcome. For years, public school supporters have tried to convince Harrisburg of the justice of implementing a fair funding formula for education and eliminating the wide funding gaps between wealthy and poorer school districts. The legislature’s failure to do so costs taxpayers in low-income districts — Reading, Pottstown, Norristown — millions of dollars every year. The gaps result in fewer opportunities, lesser facilities, and an unequal education experience.
‘Clock Tower Schools’ looking to open at Glen Mills location
A newly formed non-profit calling itself the Clock Tower Schools has filed an application for licensure from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services at the site of the shuttered Glen Mills Schools. Those with knowledge of the application are keeping fairly mum about it so far and there is no information yet on how closely connected Clock Tower would be to the former school’s administration if approved. Though it shares the same address as the Glen Mills Schools, online records for Clock Tower’s incorporation with the Department of State do not list any officers.

North Penn honors vets with graduation ceremony
Several local veterans have earned high honors, decades after they began working on them. “We take tonight’s ceremony as seriously as we do the graduation of our high school seniors, and the diplomas are conferred with much gratitude and respect,” said Superintendent Curt Dietrich. “Now, by the powers vested in me by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and the North Penn School District’s board of education, I hereby declare that these four individuals, whose names have been read this evening, shall from this point forward be known as graduates of North Penn High School.”

Five Stars score in 1st regulation win, 5-2 over Flyers
Roope Hintz scored for the second game in a row after no goals in his first 11 games, Anton Khudobin stopped 31 shots and the Dallas Stars got their first win in regulation this season, 5-2 over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night. Hintz also had the primary assist when Joe Pavelski scored a power-play goal in the third period to put Dallas ahead 4-1. It was the sixth game in a row that the Stars scored on the power play, and the first time they’d done that since February 2020.
Pacers hand Embiid-less 76ers 4th straight loss, 118-113
For Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle, Justin Holiday is a nice luxury to have in the second unit. Holiday came off the bench to score a season-high 27 points in the Indiana Pacers’ 118-113 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night. “Justin is a very good player as a started in this league but it’s better for us if he can come off the bench,” Carlisle said. “He’s a real professional at doing that. He knows how to get into the game with his mindset. He’s just a total team guy. He’s a guy that said to me ‘anything you need from me. I will do. I just want to win. I’m for the team.’ He’s been completely a man of his word. A guy who shoots the ball the way he does, when he gets on roll like he did in the first half, it’s a beautiful thing to watch.”
Broncos are no breather for Eagles in thin Mile High air
The elevation signage is everywhere at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium, from the walls near the playing field to the halls outside the locker rooms. Elevation: 5,280 feet above sea level. It typically takes nine or more days for an athlete who works at sea level to acclimate to the increased demands of altitude, according to reports. Just what the Eagles need, a headache to go with their showdown Sunday with the Denver Broncos (4:25 p.m., CBS-TV).
Michigan comes back to sack Penn State 21-17
Penn State football players seemed almost at a loss for words Saturday after another close loss. The Nittany Lions struggled to explain why ninth-ranked Michigan was able to rally past them 21-17 and send them to their fourth loss in five games. Cade McNamara threw a short pass to tight end Erick All, who turned it into a 47-yard touchdown with 3:29 left for the game-winning score at Beaver Stadium.
