The principal at a London-area high school is assuring students and staff of their safety following a string of fights and online rumours that led to police involvement.

Eight students at Medway secondary school – five males and three females – were involved in four separate fights on Tuesday and Wednesday, principal Greg Howard said in an email to parents.
“The school and the police have investigated all of these cases, and parents and guardians of the individuals involved have been contacted and consequences have either been imposed or are forthcoming,” Howard said in the email.
Officials at the Arva school were also alerted to an unrelated threat on social media Tuesday. The OPP was notified and determined there was no threat to student or public safety, Howard said.
An OPP spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.
Videos of some of the fights were posted on social media, where unsubstantiated rumours were also circulating, Howard said.

“These rumours were investigated and found to be untrue,” he said.
“We have received tremendous support from parents and community members, including students coming forward with names and videos to assist the office in holding accountable the individuals involved in these incidents.”
The recent inappropriate actions of some students don’t reflect the Medway school community, said Howard, who vowed to address any additional concerns and hold individuals accountable for their actions.
