Former Roseville Community Schools teacher Jason Bettin, who spent nine years teaching at the district’s high school, has returned as its new principal.
Bettin previously taught social studies at the school then went on to serve 10 years in administration at Roseville Middle School and Eastland Middle School.
Bettin takes over for Patrick Adams, who retired after five years at Roseville High School. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from the University of Michigan and continued his education through the years, earning a master’s degree in school administration and his educational specialist certificate in school leadership from Oakland University.
He began teaching social studies at Roseville High School in 2001 and was also head coach of the boys and girls swim teams. In 2010, he moved over to Roseville Middle School as assistant principal. He then moved on to Eastland Middle School to become principal for a year before heading back to
RMS, where he has served in the same role for the past six years.
Bettin said that he is excited to work with students moving through the final stage of their K-12 careers.
“There are so many opportunities, and so much growth that happens for kids in high school, and I am excited to be a part of students’ growth as they prepare to enter the adult stage of their lives.”
Bettin said that his short-term goals are to get to know the students, staff, and parents.
“I want to hear from all of them about what they are proud of about RHS, and what we can make better as we fulfill our mission of serving the community and preparing the students of this community for the rest\ of their lives,” Bettin said.
He added making sure that all students are both college and career-ready upon graduation is also a priority.
“We have many students that may attend college upon graduation and then enter the workforce, but we have just as many who will enter the workforce and may not go to college or some type of career training program until their mid-20s or later. We have to make sure that students are prepared with the skills to do both regardless of the order in which they are tackled,” Bettin said.
Bettin added that another important goal is to make sure that RHS and its accomplishments in academics, athletics, and extra-curriculars are points of pride in the community.
“I have devoted my entire career to the students of Roseville and believe in what they can accomplish. I’m excited to lead the high school and work with parents to ensure that the students who come through our doors will have a successful experience here and in the future,” he said.
Superintendent Mark Blaszkowski said that Bettin’s extensive experience and understanding of both educational leadership and managing the day-to-day operations of a school made him the right choice to take over at RHS.
“He is ready and eager to work with the staff in making a difference at Roseville High School, and I have the utmost confidence in his abilities. I’m excited to work with him to ensure RHS is an integral part of the community, giving students opportunities in all areas of academics as well as extracurricular programs,” Blaszkowski said.
The superintendent also thanked Adams for the five years he served as principal at Roseville High School.
“Dr. Adams has dedicated many years to the education of youth, and I appreciate his work here at Roseville Community Schools. We wish him the best of luck during his retirement.”
